What's Included?

How to Use
  • Workshop/conference opener: Ask each participant to choose a card that prompts a story about why they are at the workshop, OR how they ended up doing the kind of work they do.
  • I remember: Whether in a group or working one-to-one, ask each person to choose a card and begin telling a story with the words ‘I remember…’
  • Deep listening: Working in pairs, invite each participant to choose a card. Each person has 2 or 3 minutes to share their story while their partner simply listens without interruption or comment.
  • Celebrations: At birthdays, anniversaries etc., ask each person to choose a card that reminds them of a story about the person/people being celebrated.

‘I teach secondary school English in a challenging Western Sydney suburb, where engaging students—especially in writing—can be tough.
Last term, I introduced Storycatching cards to my VCE class, and the results amazed me. Stories flowed naturally, and students wrote honest, free prose inspired by their chosen cards.
