Helping you connect, engage, and inspire
Our tools and training are grounded in the strengths approach. This is a philosophy that recognises people’s abilities, honours their stories, and builds on what’s already working. Our resources are inspiring, tactile, flexible, and visual, making it easier for you to make meaningful connections with people of all ages.
what is the strengths approach?
The strengths approach is a collaborative, respectful way of working that builds on people’s skills, experiences, and resources to create meaningful change.
The strengths approach:
- Values dignity and uniqueness
Focuses on and upholds people’s dignity, capacities, rights, uniqueness, and commonalities.
- Empowers self-determination
Encourages individuals to be agents of their own change by supporting them to direct and guide their own journey of change and growth. - Focuses on strengths rather than deficits
Mobilises people’s existing strengths and resources to empower them to overcome challenges and work through issues. - Acknowledges power imbalances
Aims to reduce power imbalances by creating a power-with rather than a power-over dynamic between service providers and those they support. - Promotes social justice
Identifies and addresses social, personal, cultural, and structural constraints to support people’s growth and self-determination.
The people behind the tools
Every resource begins with a simple question: Will this help someone make a meaningful connection? Our team brings together creativity, practice wisdom, and experience from across human services, education, and community work. We also collaborate with practitioners, artists, people with lived experience, and community members to bring a diversity of voices and perspectives to our work.
