Product Overview

Great questions can be powerful catalysts for change, growth and making positive choices. They can also help to unlock the strengths we already possess and the wisdom we’ve gathered along life’s journey.

Note to self consists of 24 beautifully illustrated cards, featuring more than 70 powerful, challenging and hopeful questions.

Steeped in choice theory and strengths-based practice, Note to self is the perfect tool for counsellors, social workers and mental health practitioners, and also individuals seeking self-reflection or journalling prompts.

As the title suggests, Note to self is packed with important reminders—that we have control over our thoughts and actions; that we all have choices; and that our lives can be rich with meaning if we approach each day with our minds and hearts open.

Use Note to self to:

  • promote positive self-talk
  • reflect on behaviours and choices
  • work through challenges and ‘sticking points’
  • change direction or perceptions
  • identify strengths, beliefs and values
  • acknowledge thoughts and feelings

This brand-new edition includes 24 beautiful, original artworks by artist, Katie Jardine, and lots of fresh prompts and reminders for asking ourselves the big questions. Plus, we have added new content to the digital booklet, including individual card descriptors, more background on choice theory, lots of ideas for using the cards in different settings, and a wonderful, in-depth preface by author, Gena McLean.

How to Use
  • For self-reflection: Select a card that relates to a challenge you’re facing at the moment. Why is the statement important to you? Do the questions on the back of the card help you think differently about the challenge?
  • For groups and teams: Try a 15-minute discussion circle at a team or staff meeting. Spread the cards within the circle. Is there a card/statement that’s relevant to the team right now? Use the questions to help the conversation unfold and encourage team members to write down their personal ‘notes to self’.
  • For counselling: Use Note to self as a simple session opener. Invite the person to choose a single card and use the three questions to get the conversation started.

Testimonials

I have a big heart for Innovative Resources and their tools because they’ve really journeyed with me as I’ve grown as a therapist

Pip Westwood, Play Therapist Masters in Child Play Therapy | Undergraduate in Psychology | Private Practice

The most common question we’re asked is how do we talk with children about grief? Innovative Resources cards are a great place to start.

Shelly Skinner, CEO of Lionheart Lionheart’s programs are designed to educate children, teens, and adults about grief and loss.

We regularly used Innovative Resources card sets for team building, debriefing and talking about hopes and pictures of the future. I love the non-prescriptive nature of the cards. They are particularly useful in learning and talking about feelings with people of all ages who are not used to putting language to their feelings.
